Big box stores produce negitive revinue for towns It has been proven time and time again that Big box retail adversly affects the towns they inhabit. They force smaller retail stores in town that sell similar merchendise to downsize, move or close. They increase the traffic and therefore the workload on police fire and dpw employees. The property values in surrounding neighborhoods are reduced due to the increase in traffic, accidents and elimination of the small town atmosphere. These are FACTS, supported by data from Big Box developements across the country. If you want the details please visit www.sprawlbusters.com and www. hometownadvantage.org. A fiscal impact analysis should be done by the town ( and paid for by the Developer) to determine what exactly Home Depot will bring to Stoneham. |
